A little about us. We have been renting for years we finally bought a house. It needed minimum work. It had a new roof, newer appliances, new air conditioner, etc. Plus a great view of a small lake (pond) in the back yard. It just needed paint. There were no bushes trees or plants on the property. Just grass. (weeds). We didn't mind a chance to do everything the way we wanted.
So we had new carpet put in and painted the walls. They were very 80's every room was half one color and the other half another separated by a wall paper border. So we have fixed that. We also had a tub replaced because of a crack in it. Everything was looking great. But that's just not us or our luck.
So first thing that went wrong was some kids crashed their bicycle into our carport shed and smashed in the aluminum. We fixed that easily by pulling it back out.
Then our hot water heater died. It was the only really old appliance we had. So we went to the hard ware store to find another one. The old one had been fitted into the hall closet under the air conditioner unit. Well, they just don't make that size anymore. So... our options were to either get a small trailer sized unit, relocate the whole thing or, thanks to modern technology, get a tank less one. It was a little more expensive but it was the best idea. By the way, we love it. Were helping conserve energy. And it fit right in there. I had a friend install it because of the electrical upgrade that was needed and it's been working great.
Then.... the air conditioner went out. Turns out that air conditioner units need lots of air flow. and ours was crammed into a closet with a big water heater snugged up to it. So.... we replaced the compressor. It was under warranty so we just had to pay the guy to fix it.
Now.... we have had a storm blow the shingles off the vent on the top of the roof. It's under warranty so they should fix it for free. Only problem is that we have been waiting since last Wednesday for them to fix it. Some one looked at it today and said "I'll fix it on my way home this afternoon." And no one did. So.... we are waiting.
The other thing is that we have planted some plants. One tree. A bald cypress by the lake and a garden. We have a vegetable garden in the back and a herb garden up front. By the way blue sage is a beautiful flowering plant. We also planted a blue berry and some strawberries. And around on the side we've got a confederate jasmine.
