Erica's Home!!

Well, We got Erica from collage. We are all half dead from going up and down 4 flights of stairs with all her stuff. Luckily there was a boy helping us. Or we probably would not be able to move right now. But we got her and her stuff and now she's home for summer.

Our roof was fixed finally. Looks great. I had to really get mean with them.

Our dog...... What can I say. One of our neighbors called animal control and said he barks to much. (He does not. He only barks if some one or something is in the yard) So anyway we had to get proof of his shots and apparently it was a great bonding experience for him and Chris and now they are best friends. Now they are suppose to come back and check with in ten days and haven't. They keep telling us they are coming and then don't.

Veronica got shots at school. And her arm is all swollen. It's to prevent meningitis and I think the cancer one. She's all up to date. Now we are all just worried about the Swine flu. We are being told everyone should wash your hands. Stay home if your sick. Sneeze or cough into your elbow. And alcohol hand sanitizers are also effective. But I heard they are worried that next winter is when it will really spread down hear. When all the snowbirds come back.
Oh, well, hope we're not all doomed. Ha.

Sorry I didn't write anything for the past couple of days. I haven't been able to find the time. Last night we went fishing this is a picture of the sunset. We have been worrying about our dog. He seems to be doing better but Chris still isn't sure if he will ever adjust. He would probably do better with a little old lady but he does have a lot of energy.
We are preparing for Erica to come home Tuesday. She has to clear all her furniture out of her dorm room and this year they aren't going to let her store as much in the chapter room of her sorority. So we are in for a move. She's got a couch, a big TV, micro wave, toaster oven, tons of other stuff. Her refrigerator will stay at the chapter room so that's good it's really heavy.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Chris went fishing with his Uncle Mudge today on the inter coastal water way at New Smyrna Beach. The weather was wonderful, lots of sun, just a little wind, not too hot, just right. It was not a good day for fishing they didn't have much luck at all.

One little grunt was all they got. But it was over all a nice day. They enjoyed watching the sail boats go by.
To bad they didn't catch dinner. They had to go have a cal zone at the nearest Italian restaurant. Mostly all they did was dream of better days.
The rest of us did our normal routine for Earth Day. Some of us hugged a tree and kissed mother earth. Veronica is weird what can I say? Hey, I bought a tank less hot water heater last blog. That's environmental.

About us

A little about us. We have been renting for years we finally bought a house. It needed minimum work. It had a new roof, newer appliances, new air conditioner, etc. Plus a great view of a small lake (pond) in the back yard. It just needed paint. There were no bushes trees or plants on the property. Just grass. (weeds). We didn't mind a chance to do everything the way we wanted.

So we had new carpet put in and painted the walls. They were very 80's every room was half one color and the other half another separated by a wall paper border. So we have fixed that. We also had a tub replaced because of a crack in it. Everything was looking great. But that's just not us or our luck.

So first thing that went wrong was some kids crashed their bicycle into our carport shed and smashed in the aluminum. We fixed that easily by pulling it back out.

Then our hot water heater died. It was the only really old appliance we had. So we went to the hard ware store to find another one. The old one had been fitted into the hall closet under the air conditioner unit. Well, they just don't make that size anymore. So... our options were to either get a small trailer sized unit, relocate the whole thing or, thanks to modern technology, get a tank less one. It was a little more expensive but it was the best idea. By the way, we love it. Were helping conserve energy. And it fit right in there. I had a friend install it because of the electrical upgrade that was needed and it's been working great.

Then.... the air conditioner went out. Turns out that air conditioner units need lots of air flow. and ours was crammed into a closet with a big water heater snugged up to it. So.... we replaced the compressor. It was under warranty so we just had to pay the guy to fix it.

Now.... we have had a storm blow the shingles off the vent on the top of the roof. It's under warranty so they should fix it for free. Only problem is that we have been waiting since last Wednesday for them to fix it. Some one looked at it today and said "I'll fix it on my way home this afternoon." And no one did. So.... we are waiting.

I should also mention our dog.... He has been the topic of all our arguments lately. We rescued him from a lady that had to lock him in a dog kennel all day while she worked. She had a fenced back yard but that's the story we were told. So we took him in. We figured he was just cowering from us because he needed to be socialized... But... He is so strange. He hates my daughters friend who is a girl. He is scared of men. Some times he will cuddle up with Chris and sometimes well... that's the topic. He hates other animals. He doesn't know how to act around other dogs. He tries to eat them all. And small children freak him out. So anyway lately he has taken to peeing on the brand new carpet. But only for my husband. We think it may be because of the fact that he didn't want to go outside and Chris put him out. Yesterday Chris saw a black snake, maybe a water moccasin. But the dog is scared of everything. He seems to be OK with me and he is overly protective of my daughter. We keep going back and forth about getting rid of him because of the peeing. I hope he can get over it and we can keep him. Chris thinks the dog was given drugs because one minute he is fine the next he is terrified.

The other thing is that we have planted some plants. One tree. A bald cypress by the lake and a garden. We have a vegetable garden in the back and a herb garden up front. By the way blue sage is a beautiful flowering plant. We also planted a blue berry and some strawberries. And around on the side we've got a confederate jasmine.

Well, you should be all caught up on all the stuff that has happened to us lately and I haven't even mentioned anything about us. Hopefully this site will be about living in Florida and maybe some do it your self stuff. I hope people come back and read more.
